Shadow Dreams

In the dark hours of the night,
When the crystal moon sleeps,
And the stars have burned away,
Dreams take over my tired mind.
Dreams of places long forgotten,
And of people unremembered.
Plagued by shadows of faces,
And places hidden in grey haze.
Haunted by a past not my own,
The images flash before my eyes.
A gentle voice calls out my name,
Then fades away in the shadows,
Not even waiting for a response.
The voice is somehow familiar,
An echo of someone long departed.
A beautiful woman stands before me,
Her image clear as she moves closer,
She gently touches her lips to mine,
Then moves away into the shadows,
She looks back sadly then She's gone,
I can almost remember her,
But the shadows have taken my mind,
And the sun wakes me from the past.

This piece was written when I began trying past life regression (believe in it or not, it's your choice). These were the first images I was able to get. I still don't know who the woman was and I haven't really tried to find out. I also found it somewhat interesting that the poem itself takes on the shape of a chess piece when centered, a rook, one that can only move in straight lines. Perhaps it means something, perhaps not.
